Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, on Tuesday, hosted his Adamawa State counterpart, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in Gombe for projects commissioning in Balanga Local Government Area.
The engagement commenced with the commissioning of the 33-kilometre Ture-Sabon Layi Awak-Dogon Ruwa-Gelengu-Balanga Gari road, including a spur to Bakasi- Balansani-Dasan Buzu as well as the Talasse-Degri-Bembelem road which was performed by the visiting Adamawa state Governor.
During the commissioning of the projects, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri commended the outstanding performance of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, describing him as a focused, visionaryand God-fearing leader who has consistently prioritized the welfare of his people through the execution of impactful projects and programmes.
“Governor Inuwa Yahaya is a focused, visionary, and God-fearing leader who has placed the service of his people above all else.
His commitment is evident in the quality and impact of the projects and programmes being implemented across Gombe State.
This is the first time I am in this part of the state despite its close proximity with my state, but I can testify that from what I have seen, these are projects that would stand the test of time and would continue to benefit the people for decades to come”, Governor Fintiri stated.
Governor Fintiri assured of possible collaboration between his state and Gombe to connect Adamawa communities through Shelleng with the communities in Gombe through the Borgu-Dala Waja-Wala Lunguda road to boost social connectivity and stimulate economic activities around the areas.
As part of the visit, Governor Inuwa Yahaya also led Governor Fintiri to commission a Model Almajiri School (Tsangaya) in Bakassi, a project Governor Fintiri said, would improve access to basic education and integrating the Almajiri system into formal learning structures.
At Talasse, the delegation inspected an off-grid solar power facility designed to enhance electricity supply to underserved communities after years of blackouts.
Speaking at the project site, the Direcror-General of the Joint Project Development Agency, Bldr. Mahmoud Yusuf, Phd, under whose agency the Solar-Mini grid project is being implemented, stated that for over 15 years, Talasse and surrounding communities have been without electricity until the coming of this intervention.
He explained that the project which is being executed under PPP arrangement between World Bank, Gombe state government and Balanga local government, is expected to generate 1 Megawatt of electricity and power over 30 communities and about 6 thousand homes.
Briefing the delegation on the progress of the project, the Contractor, Engr. Halis Mohammed, said the project is at 80 percent completion stage with network planning and rehabilitation and KYC already commenced, solar panels almost 100% installed and batteries currently undergoing inspection for safety and quality checks by relevant regulatory authorities.
He explained that the facility can store 2.6 megawatt per hour and can be expanded in the future to a 2 Megawatt station.
He assured that the facility can supply uninterrupted electricity for 24 hours.
The Governors also paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Bala Waja, His Royal Highness, Alh. Mohammed Danjuma Mohammed.
While receiving the Governors, the royal father commended both leaders for their inclusive governance style and commitment to development and regional cooperation.
He particularly lauded their shared vision for infrastructural expansion, noting that their leadership reflects a strong commitment to building a prosperous future for their respective states.
In recognition of his contributions to the Waja Chiefdom and efforts at fostering unity, the royal father conferred on Governor Fintiri the traditional title of Bachama Waja, meaning Ambassador of the Waja Chiefdom.
