Wife of popular Hausa Activist, Ibrahim Aliyu Maisango, also known as Bichila Maisango, arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) Hauwa Mundi, has expressed deep concerns over the deteriorating conditions of his health.
The Hausa activist, has remained in DSS detention for more than two weeks stemming from his advocacy for the Hausa people to assert a distinct ethnic identity separate from the “Hausa-Fulani” label.
He has publicly argued that Hausa and Fulani are two separate ethnic groups and has campaigned for Hausa ethnic consciousness and self-identification.
His wife, Hauwa Mundi, disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement posted on her Facebook page after visiting him at DSS Headquarters in Abuja.
Hauwa Mundi stated that Ibrahim Maisango was invited by the DSS on June 2, 2026, and she was only granted access to him on Wednesday, 17th June, two weeks later.
She expressed concern over his medical condition, noting that he was already ill at the time of the invitation.
While calling for calm, Hauwa Mundi raised concerns about his health and her family’s safety.
She said she was granted access to him for the first time two weeks after his detention, during which the family received no official update.
According to her, “My husband was invited by the DSS Headquarters Abuja, on the 2nd of June 2026, and he has been there up until this moment. I was allowed access to him today (Wednesday).”
“This is someone who was sick at the time of the said invite. While he tried to put up a strong face, ‘I do not like the condition in which I met him. His medical state is of immense concern to me’,” Hauwa Mundi stated
She also disclosed that her family has received threats in recent months, which she said have intensified since her husband’s detention.
“I am putting this on record, so the world knows,” Mundi stated.
