The Wife of Niger State Governor, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, has commended Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) for it’s contributions to improving Healthcare delivery in the state, particularly in areas affecting Women and Children.
The First Lady, gave the commendation when she received a delegation of PPFN , on a courtesy call, led by the Regional Coordinator, North Central Region Office of PPFN, Hon. Mohammed Abdullahi Muregi at her office in Minna.
She expressed delight over the organisation’s presence in the state and some local government areas, saying it’s interventions had been impactful.
“I commend what PPFN is doing for women and children, especially in family planning and cervical cancer screening through medical outreaches,” she said.
The First Lady assured the delegation of her willingness to collaborate with PPFN, saying that she would engage relevant authorities to provide the organisation with necessary support to enhance their outreach services.
She urged PPFN to continue to work closely with the state Primary Healthcare Development Agency(PHDA) and expressed appreciation for her appointment as Patron of the organisation in the North Central Region.
Earlier, Hon. Mohammed Abdullahi Muregi, said PPFN was ready to deepen its partnership with the Niger state government to improve access to reproductive and primary healthcare services, especially in rural and hard-to-reach communities in the State.
He explained that the organisation initially focused on family planning services but later expanded into fully integrated healthcare services, including cervical cancer screening as well as other medical tests at its static facilities.
“On a monthly basis, we organise medical outreaches to serve the underserved, in collaboration with state governments,” he said.
He noted that the visit was to formally introduce PPFN to the First Lady and to invite her to be part of the organisation, saying it’s programmes aligned with the New Niger Agenda of governor Umaru Bago.
He, however, disclosed that the organisation offered over 20 million services across the North Central Region in 2025, covering family planning, cervical cancer and treatment of minor ailments.
He requested the consent of the first lady to serve as Patron of PPFN for the North Central Region, citing her demonstrated commitment to women, children and persons with disabilities.
Muregi also proposed a partnership with her office to establish a “New Niger Safe Motherhood, stressing, that PPFN was licensed by World Health Organisation (WHO) to conduct reproductive health training for nurses, doctors and midwives”
