Niger Government Warns  Illegal  Miners , Vows  To Prosecute Offenders

Niger State Commissioner for Ministry of Solid Mineral Development Resources, Hon. Mohammed Qasim Danjuma, has issued a strong warning to individuals and groups engaging in illegal mining activities across the state, urging them to immediately desist from operating without the necessary licences and government approval.

The Commissioner stated that the Ministry remains committed to sanitising the mining sector by ensuring that all mining activities are carried out in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the industry.

Hon. Qasim Danjuma emphasized that no individual, association, or company has the right to explore or extract mineral resources without obtaining the required licence and permission from the appropriate government authorities.

He warned that illegal mining poses serious threats to the environment, public safety, and the economic development of the state, adding that such unlawful activities deprive the government and host communities of legitimate benefits.

According to the Commissioner, the Ministry, in collaboration with relevant security agencies and regulatory bodies, has intensified surveillance and monitoring of mining sites across the state to identify and apprehend offenders.

He stressed that anyone found engaging in mining activities without a valid licence or official approval would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law, noting that the government would not tolerate acts capable of undermining its efforts to regulate the sector.

The Commissioner urged prospective miners and investors to follow the proper legal procedures by obtaining the necessary licences and permits before commencing any mining operation in the state.

He further called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to support government efforts by reporting suspicious or illegal mining activities to the appropriate authorities for prompt action.

The Commissioner concluded by reiterating that the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development Resources will continue to enforce all regulations guiding mining activities and that anyone who violates the law by engaging in illegal mining should be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
