Bauchi State Government, on Wednesday, flagged off the distribution of bags of assorted grains to residents of the State as palliative for the 2026 Ramadan fasting.
The palliative is expected to be be distributed to beneficiaries across the the Twenty local government areas of the state, as well as religious organizations, NGOs, and other selected groups.
The distribution exercise was flagged off by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Yakubu Wanka, whose Ministry has been saddled with the responsibility of the exercise since the last three years.
She explained that, each of the 20 local government areas received a trailer load of assorted food items, including rice, maize, millet and sorghum, aimed to cushion the economic hardship during the holy month of Ramadan.
Hajara Yakubu Wanka, said that the palliative covers both Ramadan and Sallah support, explaining that the gesture was approved by the state Governor to ease the burden on citizens.
The Commissioner urged the leaders who received the items to ensure that the targeted beneficiaries at the villages got them as planned reminding them that God is watching.
She prayed for Allah’s acceptance of their efforts and urged local government chairmen to ensure equitable distribution at the grassroots.
Representatives of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and other beneficiary groups expressed appreciation to the state government and pledged support for the initiative.
The local government Chairpersons were present at the event to receive the items on behalf of their respective Councils for onward distribution to beneficiaries.
In total, the Ministry distributed 25,535 bags of 25kg rice, 25,539 bags of maize, 11,970 bags of millet, 16,751 bags of sorghum and 5,000 bags of sugar.
