The Organized Labour Leader in Niger State, Comrade (Ambassador) Idrees Abdulkareem Lafene, has hailed teachers as “critical pillars of nation-building,” while urging government and stakeholders to prioritize their welfare, working conditions, and professional development.

In a goodwill message to mark “the 2026 World Teachers’ Day,” Lafene commended teachers in Niger State and across Nigeria for their dedication, sacrifices, and commitment to moulding the younger generations despite daunting challenges.
He emphasized that the role of teachers transcends classroom instruction, noting that they nurture future leaders, professionals, innovators, and responsible citizens who drive national development.
“No nation can rise above the quality of its teachers,” he stressed, calling for urgent investment in the education sector.
Lafene reaffirmed the commitment of Organised Labour in Niger State, in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Niger State Unit, to champion initiatives that improve teachers’ welfare, ensure prompt payment of salaries and allowances, enhance professional development, and provide conducive learning environments.
He praised the NUT leadership at both state and national levels for its advocacy in protecting the rights, dignity, and interests of teachers, while calling for stronger collaboration among government, labour unions, parents, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders to build a globally competitive education system.
“When we invest in teachers, we invest in the future of our children; when we strengthen education, we strengthen the nation. A well-motivated teacher will produce a well-grounded child,” Lafene declared.
He assured teachers in Niger State of continued support from Organized Labour in advocating their welfare and promoting quality education, while wishing them a successful World Teachers’ Day celebration. He described teachers as custodians of knowledge and builders of the nation’s future.
