Trader returns ₦330m erroneously credited to Bank Account, demonstrates integrity

In a notable display of honesty, Aisha Isah Yelwa, a Nigerian woman and small-scale trader from Lapai, LGA of  Niger State, has returned a huge sums of  ₦330 million mistakenly credited to her bank account.

Hajiya Aisha Yelwa discovered the unusual balance at approximately 3:49 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, as reported by an impeccable source.

Her account of the incident indicates that the discovery followed a bank visit where she had raised concerns about repeated loan deductions intended to support her business. Later that day, she checked her account and found a balance far exceeding her previous holdings.

“I was only checking to see if the loan deductions had stopped when I saw the money. I was confused and scared,” she stated.

Hajiya  Aisha Yelwa noted the absence of any transaction alerts or descriptions explaining the deposit, raising suspicion.

Recognizing the funds were not hers, she promptly alerted bank officials and cooperated fully to facilitate the recovery of the money.

Her principled actions have garnered widespread praise on social media, with many Nigerians lauding her as a model of honesty amidst rising concerns over financial crimes in the country.

Several commentators highlighted that such integrity, especially as a small-scale trader, underscores strong personal values.

As of the time of filing this report, the affected Bank, First Bank has not issued an official statement regarding the cause of the error or confirmation of the funds’ return.
