President of Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Rev Dr Israel Adelani Akanji, has declared that the recent Air strike at identified hiding spots of bandits by the US Forces was a significant relief for Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and banditry.
Israel Adelani Akanji made the declaration while speaking to Journalists in Gombe on Friday at the end of the 2026 International General Workers Conference North III, at First Baptist Church Church, Jekadafari, Gombe.
Asked if anything has changed about the security situation in Nigeria after the US strike, he said that, “Definitely, yes. Definitely, yes. I see the US strike as God’s intervention. I don’t look at it as anything. I see it as God’s intervention.”
He explained further that, “And I’m not looking at it as if it’s God’s intervention for Christians or for the Church only. It is great intervention for our country, Nigeria, where our leaders have reached a level where they cannot act decisively.”
According to him, “Imagine now a former Attorney General is being arraigned, you know, for a lot of dubious things he did, a custodian of the laws of the nation. Now, some of the things they are even accusing him of is that they found deadly ammunitions in his apartment.”
“Now, what will just one leader of a nation be able to do to such a person who has been so enriched, so sophisticated?,” he asked.
The NBC President added that, “So, and this is not the first time. Every nation receives help from outside. Have we not been receiving medical help during AIDS pandemic? Did the World Health Organization not come to our aid? Did they not bring us medication? Why are we saying that the United States has removed its hand on vaccinations and many things and all African countries are crying? Is it not because we have been receiving foreign help?”
He also stated,”So, have we not been going to other nations to help them? Did we not go to Sierra Leone, to Liberia, to other southern African countries, to Sudan to help them as Nigerians?”
“See, international collaboration did not begin today, and it will not end here. The strike action that came from the US, we thank God for it, because the people of North-West have been suffering, Muslims and Christians, all of them. Why should they continue to suffer in their own land? So that is why we are happy,” he added.
While answering the question of if the US strike has stopped the the act of insecurity in the country, he said that,”You see, the point is that nobody really knows the extent of the danger that was on ground. Nobody knows. What Americans are telling us, Nigerians don’t even know it. How Americans were seeing them, Nigerians were not even seeing them. Where Americans went to strike, here in Nigeria, we don’t even know the place. We’ve never been there.”
Israel Adelani Akanji added that, “So, whatever it is, even if it is one drop of water taken out of the ocean, the ocean is no longer the same. That air strike, for me, is for the benefit of Nigeria. And we thank them for it. So whether it has reduced it or not reduced it, it’s in the hand of God, who is the only one that can quantify what has been on ground.”
The NBC President declared that,
“But for me, at least that air strike has given more impetus and strength to our own security system. They can act better now. And I believe that God will still bring other strikes, even if not from the U.S. And those who are doing this evil work in Nigeria, they will be defeated. They will not defeat Nigeria in Jesus’ name.”
