Water Resources Commissioner attributes  current water scarcity in Minna to technical faults, ageing infrastructure, increased demand due to rapid population growth

The Niger State Commissioner for Water Resources and Irrigation Services, Farouk Umaru Audi has attributed the current acute shortage of water supply and distribution in Minna, the Niger State capital and it’s environs to some technical faults, ageing infrastructure, and increased demand resulting from rapid population growth.

The Water Resources Commissioner, Faruk Audi stated this during a live programme monitored by our Correspondent on NEXTER 97.7 Radio, Minna, on Tuesday, to address issues surrounding water shortage in the state capital and its environs.

He was accompanied to the programme by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Akilu Musa Kuta, and the Managing Director of Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation, Engineer Gimba Yisa.

Engr. Umar Audi assured residents that urgent measures are being implemented to rehabilitate damaged facilities and improve water production capacity.
 During the live radio programme, the officials engaged residents on the challenges affecting water supply, ongoing interventions, and plans by the state government to restore stable distribution across the affected communities within Minna metropolis.
Addressing listeners, Managing Director of NISWASEC, Engr. Gimba Yisa, highlighted operational efforts by the corporation to ensure equitable distribution of available water, while repair works continue at critical water works.
 He called on the general public to exercise patience and cooperate with the government while the repair and rehabilitation work is in progress.
The interactive session was conducted in four major languages English, Hausa, Nupe, and Gwari to ensure inclusiveness and effective communication with diverse listeners, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to transparency and public engagement in addressing water challenges in the State
