… Governor Inuwa Yahaya Expresses Grief over crash
Unconfirmed reports have it that five people including a Police officer were killed while several others were variously injured in a fatal crash that occurred in Mile 3, Gombe on Wednesday.
The reports revealed that the crash involved a truck fully loaded with grains which lost control due to break failure and ran into people who were selling and buying.
A resident of the area disclosed that the trailer which was going to be grains market to offload its goods suddenly lost control, crossed the road to the other side and ran into a building where people were gathered.
In the process, it crushed five people to death before it finally fell and emptied the bags of grains on the road.
Rescued efforts was made by people around the scene and rushed those injured to the health facilities around Gombe metropolis for medical attention.
Neither the State Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) not the Police Command could be reached for confirmation as the Spokespersons of the two agencies did not pick up the phone when their numbers were called.
Meanwhile, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed deep sadness over the tragic road traffic accident that occurred at New Mile 3 in Gombe involving a trailer truck loaded with bags of grains, which claimed lives and left several others injured.
The Governor described the incident as heartbreaking and unfortunate, particularly with the reported loss of a police officer and other victims in the crash, as well as destruction of public properties and goods.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased.
Inuwa Yahaya also sympathised with those who sustained injuries in the accident and prayed for their speedy recovery.
He commended the swift response of security operatives, emergency responders and relevant agencies currently managing the situation and conducting rescue and assessment operations at the scene.
While calling on motorists, especially drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and safety measures, the Governor stressed the importance of responsible driving in preventing avoidable tragedies on the roads.
He assured the public that his administration will continue to support all necessary efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and improving road safety across the state, as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General, (Press Affairs), Government House, Gombe.
