Samson, Chioma emerge winners of Niger monthly Squash league

Sampson Alabi and Chioma Aniekwe have emerged winners of male and female categories respectively in the monthly Niger State Squash league which took place at the Minna Sports club over the weekend.

Samson Alabi defeated the erstwhile champion, Gideon Bala Ibrahim 3-1, Isaac Afokhai beat Friday Shedrack to the second position in the intermediate category with 3-2, while Emmanuel John retained first position in the junior categories, male after forcing Chimobi Emmanuel to the second position with 3-1.

In the female categories, Chioma Aniekwe defeated Bimbo Olowu 3-1 after a fierce battle during the league which had 36 males and 6 females from primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the state as participants.

Addressing the players shortly before presenting various cash prizes to the winners, Chairperson of, Niger State Squash Association (NSSA), Mrs. Taiwo Akinkoye admonished losers in the three days event not to be discouraged but to devote more time, energies and as well new skills to enable them win in future events.

Akinkoye however cautioned participants, losers in particular against keeping malice or exhibiting acts of unsportsmandhip/hostilities against winners or one another due to the outcome of the event, but to in the spirit of sportsmanship accept defeat in good faith and prepare well to challenge their opponents in the coming editions.

She told all the 42 registered players after the monthly Squash league which took place at the Minna Sports club, David Mark road,Minna , last weekend that they should learn new skills and strategies without which it will be difficult for them to compete favourably and win medals at national and international events.

The 10th edition of the Squash league sponsored by an Abuja based, Elijah Group of company, the Chairperson said it was aimed at providing a platform for youths who may be intrested in taking up Squash as a vocation.
