Gombe CP says 114 traffic offenders prosecuted, 121 vehicles impounded

Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, has disclosed that a total of 114 traffic offenders have prosecuted while 121 vehicles were impounded in the ongoing clampdown on unregistered vehicles or the ones with defaced or covered number plates.
Umar Ahmed Chuso made the call on Wednesday, while briefing Journalists and other stakeholders on the Command’s operational achievements and proactive security measures put in place to safeguard lives and property of innocent and law abiding citizens.
The CP also called on all residents of the State to continue supporting the Police and other security agencies by providing timely and credible information to will aid in combating crimes and criminalities.
 The CP however stressed that, “Security is a collective responsibility, and together, we can build a safer and more peaceful Gombe State.”
 According to him, “The purpose of this briefing is to update members of the public on operational successes recorded by Gombe State Police Command in its fight against violent crimes and cyber-related offences, the ongoing enforcement against vehicles operating in violation of the National Road Traffic Regulations, and other proactive measures implemented to strengthen public safety and crime prevention across the State.”
 He then disclosed that,”Gombe State Police Command has successfully dismantled an Eight-man criminal syndicate who specialize in armed robbery and internet fraud.
 He explained that,”Following a complaint reported on 7th June, 2026, by two residents of Wuro Birji Quarters, Akko Local Government Area, who were attacked by some hoodlums and carted away their mobile phones.”
 The CP added that, “Preliminary Investigations revealed that the suspects subsequently used information obtained from the stolen devices to gain unauthorized access to the victims’ bank accounts, fraudulently withdrawing ₦296,790.00 and obtaining an additional ₦205,205.00 through a Quick Loan facility.”
 According to him, “Through credible intelligence, diligent investigation and painstaking technical analysis, our operatives traced one of the fraudulent transactions to a Moniepoint account, leading to the arrest of the principal suspect, Mustapha Kabiru, aka “Musty Bobo,” a 19-year-old student of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo. His confession led to the arrest of seven additional members of the criminal syndicate.”
 “Further investigations uncovered that the syndicate was involved in more than thirteen similar incidents across Wuro Birji, Riyal, Bomala, and Jauro Jatau communities. Investigation is ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate,” he added.
 Also, the Command intensified enforcement against vehicles operating with covered, defaced, concealed, altered and those without registration number plates as a proactive security measure aimed at improving vehicle identification and strengthening public safety.
 Following the commencement of the enforcement exercise from 16th June, 2026 to date, the Command has impounded a total of 121 vehicles, while 114 offenders have been prosecuted for offences contrary to Section 67(1) of the National Road Traffic Regulations and Section 10(3) of the Road Traffic Act, 2012.
 The CP said, “I therefore urge all vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are duly registered and their registration number plates are properly affixed and clearly visible at all times.”
 In another development, the Command successfully rescued an eight-year-old abducted boy, and arrested four suspects in connection with the crime.
 On 28th June, 2026, a report was received at the Akko Divisional Police Headquarters from one Alh Muhammad Nabadara, that his Eight year son had gone missing after leaving home on 27th June, 2026 at about 18:30hours.
 Detectives immediately commenced an intelligence-led investigations to trace the victim and following intelligence led rescue operations, on 30th June, 2026, at about 10:00 hours, operatives successfully tracked and arrested the first suspect one Abdullahi Mohammed ‘of Jauro Musa Quarters, Kumo, Akko LGA, Gombe State, whose confession led to the arrest of three additional accomplices.
The other suspects are: Mohammed Magaji ‘M’ 35 years, Sale Sale ‘23 years and Walida Ya’u  18 years all of Kagarawal Quarters, Gombe.
 The victim was subsequently rescued unharmed from their custody and has since been reunited with his family. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon its conclusion.
The CP added that in line with the vision and mission of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on intelligence-led and community-oriented policing, the  Command has implemented proactive measures to combat thuggery, drug abuse, and other social vices across the State.
 As part of these efforts, the Command  officially flagged off Police campaigns against Cultism and other vices (POCACOV) to embark on public sensitization and outreach against thuggery, drug abuse, and other criminal behaviours, particularly in educational institutions and communities, to promote responsible citizenship and prevent crime.
Also,  in a bid to combat the menace of drug abuse and thuggery on the 7th July,2026 at about 1830hrs, coordinated joint raid operations targeting identified black spots and criminal hideouts were carried out within Gombe metropolis.
During the operations, Forty-four suspects were arrested, some were in possession of offensive weapons, Indian hemp and other intoxicants. Investigation is ongoing, while those found culpable will be prosecuted accordingly.
 Communities are encouraged to partner with Police through active community participation, intelligence sharing, and the early identification of security threats.
The CP concluded that, “Gombe State Police Command remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-led, community-oriented, and proactive policing.”
