Niger Police, NYCN Embark On Walkathon to  Commemorate International Youth Day 2026

In continuation of activities marking the NPF International Youth Day 2026 (NPF IYD 2026) – National Youth Leadership & Security Initiative and in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, the Niger State Police Command, in collaboration with the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), on 22nd August 2026 embarked on a walkathon under the National Campaign, themed: “My Future is Greater than Political and Digital Thuggery.”
The Spokesman of the State Police Command SP Wasiu Abiodun stated this in a statement issued and made available to Journalists on Saturday in Minna
The statement added that the walk commenced at about 0800hrs from the State Police Command Headquarters, with Police officers and youths dressed in colourful attire.
 The statement stressed that the  participants proceeded through the Government House road,Minna  to Obasanjo Shopping Complex Roundabout and returned via the same route to the Command Headquarters in Dushen -Kura in  company of the Police Band entertaining participants with lively melody, creating an atmosphere of unity, enthusiasm and positive youth engagement.
According to SP Abiodun, ‘On completion of the walk, the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips, ably represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, DCP Aminu M. Garba, appreciated the impressive turnout and active participation of officers and youths.
 He encouraged participants, particularly the youths, to become positive advocates against political and digital thuggery, cultism, drug and substance abuse, cybercrime and other social vices, while promoting peace, responsible citizenship and lawful conduct.
The DCP also noted that the walkathon was not only a celebration of young people but also a demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to community policing, meaningful youth engagement and the protection of young people’s interests towards building a safer and more inclusive society.
He thereby appreciated all participants for their support and wished them safe return to their respective destinations, while calling for sustained cooperation and partnership between the Police and the youth in promoting peace, security and positive community development.
