Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has approved the immediate stoppage of the production of the ID Cards pending a through review and investigation,to be conducted by the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.
The development followed discovery of illegal production and sale of the ID cards to unsuspecting members of the public by fraudulent people.
The disclosure was made by the
Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Internal Security to the Governor in a statement signed and issued to Journalists on Saturday.
The statement reads: “The office of the Senior Special Assistant on Internal Security to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State wishes to inform the general public that following the recent production of Unified Business Identification Cards approved by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Sen. (Dr) Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed CON, (Kauran Bauchi/Jagaban Katagum), the office of the SSA has initiated the exercise to enhance Internal Security across the State.”
The Senior Special Assistant on Internal Security Babayo Liman, explained that investigation has revealed that some unpatriotic individuals are producing and distributing counterfeit ID Cards, extorting traders and business owners of the sum of N3,000.00 under false claim of acting on behalf of the State Government.
The Department of Internal Security described the act as a serious threat to public peace and security in the State.
The public was therefore advised that any person found extorting traders and business owners would be arrested and handed over to the Police for necessary prosecution.
