Executive Chairperson of Bogoro Local Government Council, Yakubu Lawi Sumi, has commenced the 5th phase of the scholarship sponsorship programme for indigent students of the area.
The Chairperson has therefore approved the scholarship sponsorship of Twenty-three indigenes of the area to study at the Oil and Gas Academy, Alkaleri.
The beneficiaries, drawn from different communities within the local government area, will pursue various Certificate and Diploma programmes at the Academy.
While presenting the admission letters to the beneficiaries during a brief ceremony at the Council Secretariat, the Chairperson assured them that the Council would fully sponsor their academic programmes until completion.
Lawi Sumi explained that the initiative was part of his administration’s commitment to human capital development and educational advancement in the area.
He said that empowering young people through education and professional training remains one of the most sustainable pathways to community development, economic growth and social transformation.
According to him, the scholarship programme also fulfils a strategic promise made to the people of Bogoro during his campaign, noting that his administration remains committed to translating such promises into tangible opportunities for citizens.
The Chairperson added that the students would acquire specialised skills and knowledge in the oil and gas sector, which would position them to contribute meaningfully to both the local and national economy upon completion of their studies.
He further assured that his administration would continue to prioritise policies and programmes aimed at expanding educational opportunities and reducing the financial burden on parents, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Dade Junior Zakka expressed appreciation to the Bogoro Local Government Council for the opportunity, describing the scholarship as a life-changing intervention.
He commended the Chairperson’s administration for its commitment to the welfare and educational empowerment of the people of Bogoro.
