Not fewer than ten people have been reportedly killed while many houses were burnt in a communal clash between Fulani and Kamuku ethnic groups in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger state.
The incident which occurred on Tuesday could be described as more of a spillover of the earlier ugly incident that occured between the same tribal groups some weeks ago in which one person was killed.
Independent investigations conducted by Our Reporter in Minna, revealed that the unfortunate incident happened in the two villages of Mararraban Gwadaro and Tashan Bako, in Rafi LGA.
While some people considered the incident as more of a reprisal attack, they however expressed displeasure that women and children were the worst hit interns of the number of casualties recorded and called for urgent action by relevant authorities/ bodies to address the menace.
In a telephone interview, the Chairman of Rafi Local Government Council , Hon .Ayuba Usman Katako who did not discuss the number of casualties said investigation has commenced to unravel those responsible for the act, with a view to punishing offenders and serve as deterrent to others.
Ayuba Usman Katako maintained that no responsible government will fold its arms and allow its people to be killed without stamping it’s authority with a view to bringing such problems to a halt.
He added that security agencies in their large numbers have been drafted to the area to nip in the bud cases of violence in parts of the Local Government towards safeguarding the lives and properties of its people.
