Management of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA), in Bauchi State, has warned newly matriculated Students against indulging in cultism and other anti-social vices, stressing that such will not be condoned in any form.
The University has matriculated a total of 1,448 new students into the various programmes of the University for the 2025/2026 academic sessions.
The matriculation ceremony was heks at the temporary campus of the University in Azare, headquarters of Katagum LGA of Bauchi State under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bala M. Audu, on Saturday, 31ST January , 2026.
In his remarks, the VC stated that, “Today, we have successfully Matriculated 1,076 students across Twenty Departments in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, 109 from MBBS Medicine and Surgery and 49 from BDS Dentistry Programme. This makes a total of 1,448 for the 2025/2026 Academic Session, comprising of 551 Males and 937 Females.”
Bala Audu added,”I am delighted to address this gathering and formally welcome another cohort of young, vibrant, and promising students to our prestigious institution. As you know, Matriculation is a cardinal requirement that qualifies admitted students as bonafide members of any tertiary institution. ”
“Today, in line with this tradition, the University officially inducts you into the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA) community. Remember, your were carefully admitted from many other qualified candidates like you have sought for admission into this university but they were unable to secure the admission because of inadequate space,” The VC added.
He however stressed that,”While I congratulate you on this milestone, you should know that the entire university community is here to give the full support that you need to succeed and excel in your studies. This support spans both acquisition knowledge and the moulding of positive character.”
According to him,”These require you to be both law-abiding students and face your studies with utmost seriousness and hard work. We all prayer and look forward to your successful graduation without any stagnation, and that you will be the pride of your parents, this University and the country at large.”
The VC urges the new students to read, understand and make full use of the students’ hand book, which is also available in the library in addition to their personal copies.
According to him,”FUHSA maintains a zero-tolerance policy for social vices, such as cultism, examination misconduct, sexual harassment, drug abuse, indecent dressing, vandalism, truancy etc. These are not only frowned upon, but strictly prohibited and attracts uncompromising disciplinary measures as indicated in your handbook.”
The VC added that,”Our University is therefore committed to imparting you with knowledge, and a sense of discipline by also positively moulding your character, producing worthy ambassadors who uphold national values and international best practices and behaviors.”
“Therefore, those who follow the books will be rewarded, while those who defy these standards will face the full consequences of the law. The oath you took today signifies your commitment to abide by FUHSA’s laws, statutes, and standards of decorum throughout your stay. On behalf of myself and the University community, I wish you a successful academic journey,” he charged the new students.
The VC assured that,”The University shall continue to provide a conducive learning environment and welfare services to support your studies. Similarly, a student Hand book containing all the necessary containing all the necessary guidance, information’s as well as rules and regulations shall be made available to you in order to further enhance your smooth academic life. ”
He stressed that,”FUHSA upholds fundamental principles, norms, and cultural values that positioned the institution as a center for learning and character development. These core values reflect our vision; to nurture a university of the highest standards, ranked among the world’s best. ”
He also stated that,”It may be recalled that the University was temporarily closed for a mid-semester break on 24th November 2025, following directives from the Bauchi State Government for the immediate closure of all schools in the state due to security concerns. The University re-opened for academic activities on 5th January 2026, when we were assured that the security situation has improved and the State government authorized the resumption of schools.”
“In light of this minor disruption to the approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 session, the University Senate has approved the continuation of academic activities immediately after the completion of 1st Semester examinations for the commencement of 2nd Semester (2025/2026), without any break,” he added.
On security measures, the VC stressed that,”To ensure the maximum security of lives and property on campus and provide reassurances to the students, the University and security agencies are working in synergy.”
According to him, “A military checkpoint adjacent to the University Main Gate would soon be mounted with a constant night patrols around the University. Additionally, the Bauchi State Government has donated a vehicle for patrols by university security personnel. Furthermore, the University has commenced construction of a perimeter fence around the entire Female Hostel to enhance privacy and security of the students.”
On Students welfare, he stated that:”The Management of this University is fully aware of your challenges, from the lack of adequate hostel accommodation and lecture halls as well as lack of constant power supply, which also affects water supply. However, I want to assure you that we are working round the clock to ensure that these challenges are overcome within the shortest possible time.”
Bala Audu further stated that,”We are actively engaged to ensure uninterrupted (24/7) power and water supply in the campus using solar energy, Insha Allah. I must commend the effort of the Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa in assisting the University to secure an intervention of Africa Development Bank Project to provide Solar Farm in the University.”
The VC concluded,”Furthermore, the University has begun the construction of additional classrooms and male hostels to address the acute shortage of these facilities on campus.”
He also appreciationd President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the introduction of NELFUND Programme, which has greatly alleviated financial burdens for numerous students irrespective of their socio-economic background.
According to him,”Students can now persue their studies without hindrance occasioned by financial challenges. A total of 1,798 students have secured NELFUND in this Academic session. All their Registration Fees were fully paid to the University.”
He also appreciated Bauchi State Government under the able leadership of Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for recently allocating another 500 hectares of land at Dugunde Forest (KM23 Azare-Potiskum road), bringing the total of 600 hectares as permanent site of the university.
According to him, “We have already earmarked a significant portion of the land to be soon utilized for entreprenual activities for the students.”
Similarly, he express profound appreciation the Governor of Borno State, Prof, Babagana Umara Zulum for constructing 6 units of 3-bedroom houses in the staff quarters of the University.
The VC further appreciated the Management of OPAY Digital Services for providing 10-year scholarship to 20 indigent students of the University annually, to the tune of N300,000 to each beneficiary.
