Former Military president ,General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has described the theme of the 2026 study tour by participants of Senior Course 48 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, “Community Engagement for Enhanced National Security and Prosperity”, as both timely and relevant to Nigeria’s current security realities.
The former Nigerian Leader and Elder Statesman made this known while receiving members of the delegation at his Uphill Mansion in Minna, Niger State.
He emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration between local communities and security agencies in tackling emerging threats across the country.
The former Military president , who hosted the delegation alongside former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, noted that study tours serve as vital platforms for expanding the knowledge and operational capacity of senior military officers, particularly in areas of national security and civil-military relations.
He commended the college for sustaining a culture of strategic learning and professional military development, urging participants to maximize the opportunity presented by the tour.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Air Commodore O.O. Obasa highlighted Babangida’s enduring contributions to military education, especially his role in establishing the Department of Air Warfare at the college.
He recalled that Babangida laid the foundation for the department on July 3, 1986, and commissioned it a year later, describing the initiative as a significant milestone in strengthening military training and national development.
The visit formed part of activities lined up for the one-week study tour of Senior Course 48 participants to Niger State, facilitated by the state government through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The SSG, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, was represented during the visit by the Director of Administration, Abdullahi Uregi.
The engagement further underscored the Niger State Government’s commitment to strengthening civil-military relations, supporting leadership development initiatives, and enhancing national security through collaboration and community engagement.
The visit concluded with the presentation of a souvenir to Babangida by the college in recognition of his contributions to military development, followed by a group photograph with members of the delegation.
