For the second time within 48 hours, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has declared that he remains a leading member of Nigeria’s main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in spite of ongoing internal leadership challenges muddling the party.
A visibly confident Bala Mohammed dismissed the strong speculations that he had concluded arrangements to shift camp to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying such are mere unsubstantiated lies.
The Governor made the assertion on Friday while speaking with Journalists shortly after the Eid Prayers to mark end of the 2026 30 days Ramadan fasting.
He strongly reaffirmed his political stance as a leader of the PDP, calling for mature and issue-based political discourse and engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
Stressing further, the Governor described the issues within the PDP as “not insurmountable,” expressing confidence in the abilities of the key players within the party to resolving the issues through frank but meaningful dialogue and strategic engagement.
According to him, “We are where we are today. Politics is dynamic, but we must be strategic in playing it to the advantage of the teeming supporters and part members.”
Bala Mohammed further emphasized that,”Political leadership must be guided by vision and integrity rather than desperation for power,” noting that, “Bauchi people are politically aware and cannot be misled.”
The also called on political actors in the State to avoid bitterness and divisive tendencies in order not overheat the polity ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging them to, instead embrace peaceful coexistence and healthy competition.
According to Bala Mohammed, “This is a State with a rich democratic history. We must not engage in politics of hostility. Power comes from God, and the people will always decide.”
The Governor then highlighted his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, stressing that the political space in Bauchi remains open to all, including opposition actors, without intimidation or suppression.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to leading Bauchi State with transparency and responsibility, pledging not to betray the trust of the people.
