After a failed attempt to get elected as Governor of Bauchi State in the 2023 general elections under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar (Rtd), has announced his withdrawal from partisan and active politics.

Reports revealed that he took the decision due to the recent changes and crises surrounding political party activities in the country, recall that he was part of the group that joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and launched it in Bauchi.

He made the announcement in a viral video released to the general public on Saturday, a development that took his teeming admirers, supporters and followers by surprise.

In a short video message ladden with emotions, in Hausa language, he described the decision as a “difficult one” and apologised to his supporters.

Despite stepping away from politics, he however assured that he would continue to contribute to the development of Bauchi State, particularly in the areas of health and education, through his “Marshal Care Foundation.”

He announced, “Today, with a heavy heart, I have made the difficult decision to leave politics for personal reasons.”

According to him, “This decision did not come easily, considering the love, support, and affection shown to me by the people of Bauchi State and Nigerians since I joined politics in 2021.”

He expressed appreciation to his supporters and prayed for Allah’s blessings upon them, saying, “I sincerely apologise to all my supporters and well-wishers over this difficult decision, and I wish everyone the very best,”

Saddique Abubakar further assured that his retirement from politics would not stop him from serving humanity.

“My retirement from politics will not prevent me from continuing to support the community through the Marshal Care Foundation, especially in the areas of education and healthcare,” he said.

He prayed for peace, stability, and progress in Bauchi State and the country at large.

He ventured into politics in 2021 after retiring from the Nigerian Air Force, along the line and against all odds, emerged as one of the leading contenders in the 2023 governorship election in Bauchi State but was defeated by the incumbent Governor,, Sen Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in spite of the political gang up led by former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Barr Yakubu Dogara.

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, it was widely expected that he will contest again for the governorship seat under the platform of the African Democratic Party (ADP) which he introduced to people in Bauchi State.

However, in a move that surprised many of his supporters and political associates, he announced his decision to quit politics.
