The Executive Chairperson of Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State, Hon. Muhammad Aliyu Bagga, has urged the Niger State Government to reopen schools in parts of the council where peace has been restored, citing noticeable improvements in security across several communities.

In a letter to the Niger State Ministry of Secondary and Basic Education, Hon. Bagga appealed for a review of the blanket closure of schools, saying that insecurity is not prevalent in all parts of Mariga.
While commending the state government for prioritizing the safety of students and teachers through the temporary shutdown of schools, the chairman expressed concern over the academic disruption in communities that are currently peaceful.
“Looking at the academic calendar, we are far left behind,” he said, noting that external examinations such as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) are fast approaching, while many students have yet to receive adequate preparation and assessment.
Hon. Bagga acknowledged the ongoing efforts of security personnel in tackling insurgency within the local government, stating that their operations are beginning to yield positive results.
He emphasized that such improvements should be reflected in decisions concerning the education sector and other social activities.
The Council Chairman reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with state authorities and security agencies to ensure that schools in safe areas resume academic activities under strict safety guidelines.
