A total of 365 students have been matriculated into the Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Computing, and Allied Health Sciences for the 2025/2026 academic session into Al-Muhibbah Open University, Abuja.
The disclosure was made by the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Dr Ibrahim Hassan, during the second matriculation ceremony held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 in Bauchi.
He stated that, “In the first matriculation ceremony, the University welcomed 103 students into the Faculties of Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Computing and Allied Health Sciences. Currently, the university has over 500 students enrolled in various programs across undergraduate and postgraduate courses.”
According to him,”This reflects the University’s growth from four faculties to five faculties, from 14 Undergraduate programmes to 20 Undergraduate programmes and 5 Postgraduate programmes.”
The VC further stated that, “I would also like to proudly announce that out of the 14 initial programmes, 12 have, last year undergone accreditation by the Nigerian University Commission and have gotten full accreditation.
I would like to use this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to the Bauchi State Government for their generous sponsorship of 200 students.”
“This gesture is not only a significant contribution to the growth of Al-Muhibbah Open University, but also a model for other stakeholders to follow. Let us all be inspired by this example and work together to support the growth of our dear University and the expansion of our enrolment drive.”
Ibrahim Hassan added that,”Every contribution, whether it be in the form of sponsorship, mentorship, or resource sharing, plays a vital role in building a more educated and empowered Nigeria.”
He stressed that, “Today’s event is important because it marks the official enrolment of the matriculating students into Al-Muhibbah Open University’s academic programmes and in line with the approval of the National Universities Commission. It is, with, great joy that I welcome all the students into the University. I trust that God will use this University; to nurture your growth and development in all facets of life.”
“I congratulate your parents for the central roles they have played in your lives. It is my prayer that their labour will not be in vain.
You have chosen to pursue your academic dreams through open and distance learning, a mode of education that offers flexibility, accessibility, and convenience,” he added.
According to him,”In emergency situations like during COVID 19, or where there are insecurity challenges like banditry and kidnappings which disrupts traditional education in many places, the open and distance learning serves as a safe and viable alternative.”
He also stressed that,”At Al-Muhibbah Open University, we are committed to providing quality education to all, regardless of location or circumstance. Our equipped laboratories, libraries, and e-resources, including our Learning Management System (LMS) and subscribed databases, are designed to support your academic success.”
He therefore advised the Students to take full advantage of these resources available to engage with their lecturers, participate in online discussions, and utilize the e-resources to enhance their learning experience.
He charged them,”As you embark on this academic journey, remember that education is a key to unlocking your potential and contributing to national development. Stay focused, work hard, and make the most of this opportunity.”
According to him, “At Al-Muhibbah Open University, we take pride in training students in academic work and character. It is based, on the assumption that when the students graduate from here, they will contribute meaningfully to developmental discourse across the globe.”
He stressed that,”Our goal as a University is to raise godly men and women who will dominate in their various fields of endeavour. I advise you to emulate your lecturers and strictly adhere to the university’s policies on academic integrity, career service, and exam conduct.”
The VC further charged them, “Remember that you are now ambassadors of Al-Muhibbah Open University and must express that ambassadorial disposition in all your interactions. We are pleased to inform you that Al-Muhibbah Open University offers courses that are of commercial value.
He stated that, “Our teaching approach is market-oriented and entrepreneurially based. Our students are offered internship opportunities at Al-Muhibbah Fashion (our Shoes and Bags Factory), Khuld water and Zinariya Farms. Therefore, graduates of this University cannot join the army of job seekers in the nation; they will be proud owners and pioneers of businesses in some years to come.”
“I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to our Chancellor, Her Excellency Hajiya Dr. Aisha Bala Muhammad, for her visionary leadership in establishing Al-Muhibbah Open University and sponsoring 50 students under Al-Muhibbah Foundation. Her decision to invest in education is a testament to her commitment to humanity. I pray that Allah rewards her abundantly for this noble gesture.”
According to him,”The Chancellor’s vision is a lofty one. I therefore call on everyone present here to join her and her team, made up of sound academics and intellectuals to see to the fulfillment and further expansion of the University.”
In her speech, the Chancellor of Al-muhibbah Open University, (Dr) Aisha Bala Mohammed, , First Lady of Bauchi State, stated that, “We are projecting into a challenging future and times, so therefore, we must brace up in order to position the university as a globally recognized and competitive agency.”
She also thanked the regulators: the National Universities Commission and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) , particularly for their encouragement and support, stressing,”We shall continue to nurture this collaboration and abide by your regulations designed to improve our systems and bring credibility to our institution.”
Aisha Bala Mohammed stressed, “As we matriculate 365 .students, remember the purpose for which you are in the university. Focus on your studies and obey rules and regulations. We will not tolerate indiscipline.”
According to her, “Open Distance and e-learning affords you the opportunity to study with flexibility, combining your studies with other activities. You must learn extra skills to prepare your self for the challenges ahead. It is my prayers that you will learn, graduate and become good ambassadors of Al-Muhibbah Open University. Take your studies seriously and make your parents and sponsors proud.”
She then thanked the Government of Bauchi State for the Scholarship offered to some students in our University, assuring that,”The university will work to ensure that the students are given the best attention and service they desire.”
In his own remarks, Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Prof. Yahuza Bello, stated that, “This occasion marks not only the formal admission of a new set of students into our academic community but also another significant milestone in the steady growth of this young and promising institution.”
He added that, “First and foremost, I wish to warmly congratulate and profoundly thank Her Excellency, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, the Chancellor of this University, for her remarkable insight, unwavering sacrifice, and steadfast commitment in establishing and sustaining Al-Muhibbah Open University.”
According to him,”The vision she has brought to life is far more than an academic project; it is a noble act of community service and a lasting contribution to humanity. Indeed, this institution stands as a form of sadaqatul jariya—a continuous charity whose rewards, by the mercy of Allah, will endure for generations.”
He also extended sincere appreciation to the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, for the moral encouragement and various forms of support he has consistently extended to the University.
According to him,”Such partnership between leadership and educational advancement is vital for societal progress. We pray that Allah rewards him generously and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus. Ameen.”
He stressed that, “To our dear students who are being formally inducted today, I offer my heartfelt congratulations. Gaining admission into Al-Muhibbah Open University is both a privilege and a responsibility. You are fortunate to be among the pioneering generation of a young, vibrant, and forward-looking institution that is committed to academic excellence, character development, and service to society.”
“However, with this opportunity comes an obligation. You must justify the sacrifices and vision of Her Excellency and all those who have laboured to make this University a reality. This can only be achieved through diligence, discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to your studies.”
He then advised the students to avoid distractions that may derail their academic journey, uphold the values of hard work and moral uprightness, and strive for excellence in all that you do.
According to him,”Equally important, you must conduct yourselves as worthy ambassadors of Al-Muhibbah Open University wherever you may find yourselves—within the campus, in your communities, and in the wider society. Let your character, knowledge, and service reflect the noble ideals upon which this institution was founded.”
He also assured that,”As a University, we remain committed to providing you with a conducive learning environment, competent academic guidance, and opportunities that will prepare you not only for employment but for leadership, innovation, and meaningful contribution to national development. Education, especially in an open and inclusive system such as ours, is a powerful tool for transformation, empowerment, and social progress.”
“Parents and guardians, we thank you for the trust you have placed in this institution and for the sacrifices you continue to make for the education of your children. Your support remains indispensable to their success.
Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, today’s ceremony is a reminder that the future of our society depends greatly on the knowledge, values, and vision we instill in the younger generation. Together, we must continue to support institutions like Al-Muhibbah Open University that expand access to quality education and nurture responsible citizens,” he concluded.
