The Niger State Ministry of Mineral Resources has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with organised mine workers as part of efforts to curb illegal mining and enhance the state’s economic prosperity.
This assurance was given on Wednesday, 14th January 2026, when the Ministry received a delegation of the Nigeria Union of Mine Workers at the office of the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Mineral Resources, Alhaji Mohammed Qasim Danjuma (Danrimin Agaie).
Indication to this effect emerged following a Press statement issued by the Information Officer of the State Ministry of Mineral Resources Ms.Dibie Maureen and made available to Journalists in Minna on Wednesday 14th January 2026
The statement added that Welcoming the union officials, the Honourable Commissioner expressed appreciation for their visit and commended the dedication of the union’s leadership.
He assured them that under his watch, the union would continue to thrive, stressing that their efforts would not be in vain. He noted that the Ministry is proud of the union executives and their contributions to the development of the sector.
Alhaji Danjuma called on the union to partner closely with the Ministry in the fight against illegal mining, emphasizing that collective effort is key to making Niger State prosperous.
He urged the members present to relay his message to their colleagues who were absent, reiterating his vision to position Niger State as a model that other states would envy in mineral resource management.
The Commissioner further assured the union that their concerns and requests would be conveyed to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Niger State,Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, stressing that while acknowledging that perfection belongs only to Almighty God, he encouraged continuous cooperation, unity, and commitment towards promoting the state.
He thereby prayed for the continued growth and greatness of the union, pledging to work hand in hand with them for the progress of the association, the Ministry, and Niger State at large.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Comrade Idris Legbo Abdullahi, responded to questions from union members by advocating for the need for proper communication.
He further advised consultants to always liaise with the Ministry and reminded the union of its responsibility to regularly report relevant issues to the Ministry.
Earlier, the Niger State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Mine Workers, Comrade Musa Adamu Nasko, said the visit was aimed at deepening the existing synergy between the union and the Ministry.
He reaffirmed the union’s commitment to supporting government efforts and promised that the union would contribute to generating more revenue for the state.
Meanwhile, the visit underscored the shared resolve of the Ministry and the Nigeria Union of Mine Workers to collaborate for sustainable development, improved revenue generation, and the eradication of illegal mining activities in Niger State.
