The Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of the mother of the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaja Sidikat Basiru, who died at the age of 92.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of his colleagues in the Northern States Governors’ Forum, Governor Inuwa Yahaya described the late Alhaja Sidikat Basiru as a virtuous matriarch, a disciplined mother and a woman of faith whose life was defined by dignity, selfless sacrifice and devotion to family and the service of Allah.
The Governor said the death of a mother is one of life’s most painful experiences, noting that no matter one’s age or status, the loss leaves a void that words can scarcely fill.
Inuwa Yahaya urged Senator Surajuddeen Ajibola Basiru, his siblings and the entire Basiru family to draw strength and comfort from the exemplary life their beloved mother lived and the enduring legacy she left behind.
He observed that Alhaja Sidikat’s values of discipline, integrity, humility and sound moral upbringing are clearly reflected in the character, conduct and public service of her children, particularly Senator Ajibola Basiru, whose commitment to national service continue to earn him respect.
According to him, “The greatest tribute children can pay to their departed parents is to uphold the noble values they instilled in them. Alhaja lived a fulfilled and honourable life, raising children who make meaningful contributions to society and our nation.”
On behalf of the Governors of the 19 Northern States, Inuwa Yahaya extended his heartfelt condolences to Senator Ajibola Basiru, the immediate and extended Basiru family, the government and people of Osun State, as well as the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress over this immense loss.
