Speaking during an interview on Arise News, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has offered insight into the ongoing internal tensions within the party, particularly as they relate to former Rivers State governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Sani explained that the current disagreement stems from structural changes within the PDP, especially regarding the composition of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

According to him, this is the first time the party has constituted a national leadership without any nominee linked to Wike, a development he described as significant in understanding the former governor’s reaction.

He said, “The reason why Wike is, you know, fighting so hard is that this is the first time the party will form a National Working Committee without him having a single member on it. He believes the party should have allowed him to have a member, but they felt, no, you cannot eat your cake and have it. You cannot be working for the APC and then want to impose people on us in the PDP. So there is no way we can trust you.”

In his analysis, Sani suggested that party leaders took a firm stance to protect internal cohesion and discipline, insisting that loyalty to the party must be clear and uncompromised.

He argued that the PDP could not allow a situation where an individual perceived to be aligned with another political party would still seek to exert influence over its internal structures.
