Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has inaugurated and handed over 12 units of 3-bedroom staff quarters to the management of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA), in Bauchi State.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony on Sunday, the Governor said that the multimillion Naira housing project was part of his administration’s effort to address accommodation challenges and reduce the housing deficit confronting Academic Staff of the institution as part of efforts to strengthen educational development in the North East sub region.
Represented by the State Commissioner of Housing and Environment, Mustapha Gubio, the Governor explained that the two units two-storey buildings comprising of six flats each would significantly improve the welfare and living conditions of university staff and increase productivity.
Babagana Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting educational institutions beyond state boundaries.
He noted that the University will play a strategic role in advancing medical training, scientific research and healthcare services across the Northeast sub region and the country at large.
According to him, “This project is a gesture delivered by His Excellency in the unwavering commitment of advancement of education and healthcare in the Northeast states.”
“This building will undoubtedly enhance the infrastructural development of this university providing a conducive environment for students and staff”, Babagana Zulum stated.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Bala Audu,
thanked the Borno State Government for the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Mohammed Alkali, he described the development as a positive response to solving accommodation problem of the University.
The VC highlighted that, “A pledge made by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Borno State is coming to reality. The Federal University of Health Sciences Azare was actually established by the Federal Government of Nigeria to address the critical shortage of essential health personnel in the country.”
He assured that the University management would ensure proper utilisation and maintenance of the housing facilities for the benefit of academic staff and other intended beneficiaries,
Highlights of the ceremony featured the presentation of allocation forms to some benefiting staff by the representative of the Governor alongside members of the University management.
