The Niger State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Hon. Kabir Abbas, has issued a strong directive to the contractor handling the 556km road project in Mokwa Local Government Area of the State to immediately return to site, warning that the contract is close to elapsing.

Hon. Kabir Abbas gave the directive during an assessment of the project, expressing dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work and prolonged absence of the contractor from the site.

He stressed that the state government will not tolerate unnecessary delays on critical infrastructure projects meant to improve the lives of the people.
The Commissioner made it clear that failure to resume work promptly could lead to serious consequences, including the expiration of the contract in line with existing agreements and government regulations, emphasizing  that contractors must adhere strictly to project timelines and specifications.
While addressing stakeholders, Hon. Kabir Abbas reaffirmed the commitment of the Niger state government to delivering quality road infrastructure across the state, noting that the Mokwa road project remains a priority due to its economic and social importance.

He commended the host communities along the road corridor for their patience, cooperation, and understanding despite the inconvenience caused by the delay in the project.

According to him, the peaceful disposition of the communities has helped to maintain a conducive environment for construction activities.
The Commissioner urged residents to remain patient, assuring them that the government is taking decisive steps to ensure the contractor returns to site and completes the project as expected. He noted that the benefits of the road, once completed, will far outweigh the temporary challenges.

Hon. Kabir Abbas concluded by assuring the people of Mokwa that they will soon begin to enjoy a durable and quality road network that will boost transportation, trade, and overall development in the area, in line with the vision of the present administration.
