The Niger State Police Command under the leadership of CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips wishes to inform members of the public of the immediate commencement of enforcement against the use of covered number plates, defaced number plates and vehicles without valid registration number plates in the State.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command,SP Wasiu Abiodun stated this in a Press statement issued and made available to Journalists on Wednesday in Minna.
According to the statement, the Police Command has observed the increase rate of motorists deliberately covering, tampering or removing vehicle number plates, which contravenes section 10(3) of the Road Traffic Act 2004 and Regulation 38 of the National Road Traffic Regulation, 2012 which mandate every vehicle on the road to clearly display their registration number plates at all times.
Consequently, the Commissioner of Police has directed Area Commanders and DPOs in the State to commence immediate enforcement across the State.
The Command enjoined vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are duly registered, fix their number plates on both front and rear, and remove any form of covering or obstruction on number plates.
Meanwhile, members of the public, transport unions and vehicle drivers are urged to cooperate with Police personnel during the enforcement as the effort is in the interest of national security.
