The Federal Orthopaedic Hospital in Billiri, Gombe State, is set to commence operations, marking a major milestone in healthcare delivery across the North-East region of Nigeria.
This is contained in a press release signed by Ahaziah Abubakar, Media Aide to the lawmaker representing Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency, Alhaji Ali Isa, and made available to newsmen in Gombe.
He stated that the facility is the first of its kind in the region and was facilitated by the lawmaker.
According to him, the hospital was established following the passage of a bill sponsored by the lawmaker in the National Assembly, which received presidential assent earlier this year.
He added that the development is expected to significantly improve access to specialised orthopaedic care for residents within and beyond Gombe State.
He disclosed that the hospital would be captured in the supplementary budget for the year, having already been listed under federal parastatals.
He further explained that an interim three-man management committee has been proposed for government approval, while 20 ad hoc staff from the constituency have been engaged to support the hospital’s immediate take-off.
He also revealed that plans are underway for the official commissioning of the hospital by top government officials, in collaboration with the Gombe State Government.
He noted that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved both the commencement of operations at the facility and the upgrade of the General Hospital in Billiri to complement its services.
Abubakar added that during a closed-door meeting with political associates and supporters in Gombe, the lawmaker,who is also the Minority Whip of the House of Representatives in the 10th Assembly,discussed political developments affecting his constituency and the state at large.
The media aide meeting reportedly resolved that stakeholders from Balanga/Billiri would collectively align with any political platform the lawmaker chooses ahead of the 2027 elections.
He further said that,the lawmaker assured his supporters that he would soon make his political position known, urging them to remain patient and prayerful as he seeks guidance on the best platform to pursue his ambitions.
