The Niger State Government has called for enhanced security through the application of modern technology and increased manpower to support security agencies in combating crime and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Receiving the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Training and Development, North Central Zone, DIG,Ishaku Mohammed, at the Government House, Minna, the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, speaking on behalf of the State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, welcomed the DIG and commended the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace and stability across the state.
The Deputy Governor noted that although the security situation in Niger State has improved significantly, stressing that the state’s vast landmass continues to pose challenges to effective security coverage due to inadequate manpower.
He explained that the state government has made considerable progress in tackling criminal activities and it’s increasingly adopting technology-driven approaches to address emerging security threats.
According to him, the deployment of additional security personnel, provision of adequate equipment, and sustained collaboration among security agencies are necessary to consolidate the gains already achieved.
Comrade Yakubu Garba emphasized that strengthening the operational capacity of the police and other security agencies would further support the government’s efforts to secure schools, protect communities, and sustain socio-economic activities across the state.
He added that while the state has recorded notable successes in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities, continued support for the Nigeria Police Force remains essential to completely eliminate security threats.
In his remarks, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Ishaku Mohammed, revealed that the Federal Government has approved the recruitment of 50,000 additional police personnel to strengthen policing across the country.
He stated that efforts are also being intensified to improve logistics and security operations, particularly in border communities and other vulnerable areas.
The DIG further highlighted the importance of leveraging modern security technologies, including aerial surveillance and drone technology, to enhance intelligence gathering, monitoring, and rapid response capabilities.
He expressed confidence that the deployment of these innovations, alongside increased manpower and collaboration with state governments, would significantly improve security outcomes and contribute to lasting peace, safety, and development.
The visit underscores the commitment of both the Federal Government and the Niger State Government to strengthening security partnerships and adopting innovative solutions to effectively address evolving security challenges across the state and the country.
