Bauchi State Police Command has has commenced full scale investigations into the circumstances leading to the death of 20-years-old young man, Abdullahi Adamu, allegedly tortured while in Police detention.
The disclosure was made by the State Command through the PPRO, SP Nafiu Habib, in a statement he issued to Journalists on Tuesday.
According to him, “Attention of the Police Command has been drawn to a report making the rounds on social media alleging that operatives at a Police Outpost under Misau Division, Misau LGA assaulted a young man who was being interrogated over a case under investigation.”
He wrote that,”It was further alleged that the victim, Abdullahi Adamu, 20-years-old, of Sebore Village, Hardawa District, was admitted at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Misau, and was later referred to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi for further treatment, where he was confirmed dead on Sunday, 12/07/2026 while receiving treatment.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has expressed concern over the allegation and stated that the Command takes issues of professionalism, respect for human rights, and due process very seriously.
In line with the development, the Commissioner has immediately ordered a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Command is committed to ensuring that justice is served and that appropriate disciplinary and legal actions will be taken against any personnel found culpable in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The Command extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and prays for the repose of his soul.
It urged members of the public with useful information that can aid the investigation are encouraged to come forward to the Command.
Reports from the area alleged that the deceased was arrested by the Police for committing a crime and in the process of trying to extract truth from him, he was allegedly tortured until he was unconscious.
A Facebook user from the area Ali Lamara Hardawa, in his post demand for thorough investigation to ascertain the veracity of the allegation by the immediate family members of the late Abdullahi Adamu.
He wrote, “We are calling for a full scale and detailed investigation on the death of late Abdullahi Adamu of Sebore Village in Hardawa. We extend our condolences to his immediate family and the entire people of Hardawa, may Allah forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest in Aljannat Firdaus.”
According to him,”There are different versions of the story as well as counter accusations of the whole situation. Because of the development, we are calling on the concerned authorities to immediately commence investigating the issue.”
He added that, “At the end of it all, let justice prevail, let late Abdullahi Adamu get justice even at death. Whoever is found culpable should be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
“In my position as a supporter of the gubernatorial candidate of the APM in the State, Dr. Yakubu Adamu PhD, I am calling on Bauchi State Government and the security agencies, to investigate the issue thoroughly and independently in order to unearthed the truth about the situation as well as avoiding future occurrence. It should be ensure that justice was served.”
He then appealed to the public to stop spreading unfounded rumors about the issue and stop pointing accusing fingers to innocent people in order not to escalate the situation.”
