Bauchi State Police Command has denied insinuations that armed bandits and kidnappers in the State have been granted amnesty, declaring that nothing as such has taken place in the State.

The Command also emphatically declares that there is no plans of any negotiations with any group of criminals anywhere in the State though it encouraged such people to voluntarily lay down their arms and repent before the long arms of law catch up with them.

Listening to complaints from members of the community

The declaration was made by the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, while addressing residents of Mansur and surrounding villages in Alkaleri LGA.

The Police Commissioner was in the area alongside other Heads of Security agencies operating in the State, on an on-the-spot assessment of security situation in the area.

It was part of security and confidence building as the CP and other Security Heads visited Mansur where they are experiencing some security challenges of late.

The CP led the synergized team of security heads to the area in order to build up the confidence of the residents on the insecurity situation in the area.

He and other security heads also took the opportunity to visit and assess progress on the site of the ongoing construction of the Forward Operation Base (FOB) being undertaken by Bauchi State Government.

Together with the CP on the visit were the Commandant, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the representatives of the Brigade Commander, 33 Artillery Brigade and Director of State Services (DSS) and the Commander, Nigerian Forest Security Services, Bauchi State Commands.

Stakeholders and residents from various communities within the area were in attendance at the meeting held at the Mansur market square.

They expressed their unimpeded happiness which confirmed a restored confidence in the security agencies just as they also disclosed their security challenges.

While addressing the gathering, the CP stated emphatically that the rumours making the rounds that a truce or amnesty of sort has been granted to bandits, is totally false.

He emphasised that neither the Government of Bauchi State nor the Security Community has entered into any negotiation with bandits.

He assured members of the Community that their safety will remain a high priority in the discharge of their constitutional duties of preserving law and order.

On that note, he advised community members to move freely but maintain vigilance and report any strange face or happenings to the nearest security Post.

He told them that in the case of any emergency, they can call the number: 08151849417, for prompt action.

The visit was a morale booster for the residents who have experienced various acts of banditry and kidnapping in recent times, as contained in a statement by SP Nafiu Habib, Police Public Relations Officer.
