Students of Bauchi State owned Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), have been charged to see education as a business that must be taken with all seriousness if they must succeed in academic pursuit.
The charge was made by the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences of the University, Prof Musa Adamu Wunti, while declaring opened, a one-day orientation for newly matriculated students of the University, held on Friday at the Yuli Campus.
According to him, “The orientation is a necessary thing which will expose you to the dos and don’ts of the University. You need to be told what you must do and not to do in other to achieve the set objectives of your coming here.”
He warned the Students to shun anti social vices that are prohibited by the management of the University stressing that SAZU does not condone cultism and other anti-social vices that will bring the University to disrepute.
He stressed that,”You are expected to know what actually brought us together here in order to know why you are in this important institution. You could remember some weeks ago, you were also matriculated here and the university allowed you to be present and administer oaths to you to be qualified students of this institution.”
Adamu Musa Wunti added that, “And that is the beginning of this journey. Today, we are here to let you know the reasons why you are here. University education is a business of serious commitment. We give the brief to you on two important things. One, for character. Two, for academic excellence.”
He stressed that,”You are here to exhibit who you are. We expect that your parents not only trained you and get you what we call personality and character development before you are here, that is the basic thing.”
The Dean added that, “Let me assure you, you need to be guided on the workings, regulations, rules governing institutions, particularly where you are, the University.”
“So, I welcome you all. I believe that you are going to benefit from the papers that are going to be presented here today, which will help you understand the system, help you understand the rules governing examination, and help you understand how to develop your career,he,” he added.
He then outlined that,”You will be guided and will be controlled by the contributions to be given by the representative of the Commander, NDLEA. So I welcome you all to a successful presentation. Thank you very much.”
In his remarks, the Registrar, AG Hassan, charged the Students to ensure strict adherence to the rules and regulations of the University in order to finish well and receive a commendable results at the end of their academic journey.
The Registrar further reminded the Students of the oath they took recently urging them to always remember the contents and go by them day by day until the end of their academic journey.
He further urged them to make themselves familiar with the registry which is the door into and out of the University stressing that, “Office of the Registrar is therefore a place you must be familiar with.”
Presentations were made to the students on examanination malpractice, dangers of illicit drugs, relationships on campus and other issues of academic activities.
