In a decisive move to find a lasting solution to the ongoing suspension of revenue consultants engaged by the Niger State Ministry of Mineral Resources, the Niger State House of Assembly Committee on Environment and Climate Change, Mineral Resources, Power and Renewable Energy convened a crucial mediation meeting with officials of the Ministry and representatives of the MMR Revenue Forum.
The Ministry’s delegation was led by the Honourable Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Alhaji Mohammed Qasim Danjuma, and accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Comrade Idris A. Legbo, alongside other top management staff.
The Information Officer of the Ministry,Dibie Maureen stated this in a Press statement issued by her and made available to Journalists on Thursday in Minna
The statement added that in welcoming both parties, the Chairman of the house Committee, Hon. Mohammed Garba, stated that the purpose of the meeting was to thoroughly examine the issues surrounding the suspension of the consultants and to chart a constructive path forward.
He emphasized that the Committee’s intervention was driven solely by the interest of the state and its citizens.
According to him, the House Committee stands as a mediator in the matter and is committed to ensuring that all concerns are addressed fairly and transparently.
He urged both parties to return to the drawing board, reassess their positions, and work collaboratively toward an amicable resolution that would strengthen the state’s revenue framework.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner commended the House Committee for its diligence and oversight responsibility.
He reaffirmed that his actions were not personal but guided strictly by official directives and the broader mandate to enhance accountability and performance within the Ministry.
Alhaji Danjuma stated that he harbors no personal grievances against any consultant, stressing, that his primary responsibility is to deliver optimal results in line with the vision of His Excellency, the Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Mohammed Umar Bago.
He reiterated his readiness to work with all stakeholders, provided that engagements align with state laws, transparency standards, and the New Niger reform agenda.
Contributing to the discussion, Hon. Abubakar Gomna noted that documentation and procedural compliance are essential in resolving the matter.
He observed that leadership styles may differ but underscored that the overarching authority remains with the Governor, just as he described the situation as partly arising from administrative transitions and assured that there remains room for constructive dialogue and reconciliation.
After extensive deliberations, the Committee resolved that the affected consultants should engage directly with the Ministry to explore avenues for amicable settlement.
It further directed that any resolutions reached by both parties be formally reported back to the House Committee to determine the next line of action.
Meanwhile, the meeting underscored the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening institutional harmony, safeguarding public revenue, and ensuring that all engagements within the mineral resources sector serve the best interest of Niger State.
