Ten persons have been reportedly killed in a fatal road traffic crash involving an open body articulated truck at Badeggi in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger state.
The trailer driver was said to be heading to Lagos State from the Northern region when the accident happened due to bad nature of the Badeggi-Bida road that has allegedly become a death trap for motorists and other road users plying the road.
Reports have it that the Chairman of Bida Local Government Council , Alhaji Usman Mohammed Monko had organized a funeral for the deceased persons at the Abdulrahman Bin Auf Juma’at Mosque Bida, which was led by the Chief Imam of Bida , Malam Hassan Taye.
Speaking after the funeral prayer, Alhaji Usman Monko described the accident as painful and prayed Allah to forgive the deceased persons and grant the bereaved families the fortitude/patient to bear the irreparable loss.
He however appealed for maximum caution on the part of motorists and commuters alike especially tanker driver’s plying the road to avoid regular accidents and safe guard lives and properties.
In a separate interviews on the state of Bida- Badeggi- Lapai road, the Council Chairman expressed sadness and appealed to the Federal Government to either embark on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the road or to close it down completely to ameliorate the sufferings of its people.
