The Niger State Government has advanced plans for the development of a 60-hectare Trailer Park at Lambata, Gurara Local Government Area, as part of efforts to unlock private-sector investment, strengthen infrastructure and expand the state’s revenue base.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Information Department of the State Ministry of Information and Orientation and made available to Journalists on Wednesday in Minna
The statement added that the development formed the focus of a Site Board Meeting held at the proposed project location along the Lambata–Lapai Road, led by the Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Barr. Bello Ahmad Agwara.
It stated further that the the meeting brought together officials of the Ministry of Lands and Survey, the Niger State Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Directorate, Ministry of Investment, Gurara Local Government Council and the Lambata traditional institution, alongside representatives of the host community.
Speaking at the meeting, Barr. Agwara described the Site Board process as a statutory and essential component of land acquisition, particularly where land is required for public or private development.
He explained that the process provides an opportunity to regularise land acquisition procedures in line with existing laws, obtain the consent of host communities, address concerns of landowners and farmers, and sensitise affected communities on the benefits and implications of proposed projects.
The Commissioner said the proposed Trailer Park was strategically conceived to support the development agenda of the administration of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, while positioning the Lambata–Lapai corridor as a major commercial and logistics hub.
According to him, the facility is expected to generate additional revenue for the state and Gurara Local Government, attract private investment and stimulate economic activities within and beyond the host community.
Barr. Agwara said that the proposed development will provide a comprehensive range of support facilities, including a hospital, school, police station, fire service station, shopping malls, restaurants, filling stations, mechanic workshops and other services required to support long-distance transport operations.
He explained that it will also feature a five-star hotel with more than 150 rooms, further enhancing the commercial potential of the corridor and creating opportunities for employment and ancillary businesses.
Barr. Agwara said the project would be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership arrangement designed to attract both local and international investors.
He explained further that the project would proceed to the next stage following the completion of key processes, including compensation assessment and surveys, community engagements and the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), with completion targeted within two years thereafter.
Also speaking, the Director-General of Public-Private Partnership, Niger State, Mallam Mohammad Saidu Etsu, said the engagement was part of renewed efforts to revive the Trailer Park project, which was initially conceived in 2019.
He stressed that the success of the project would depend on sustained collaboration among the Ministry of Lands and Survey, relevant government agencies, the host community and prospective investors.
Mallam Etsu expressed optimism that the renewed efforts would lead to the actualisation of the project and enable it to deliver its anticipated economic and social benefits.
In his remarks, the Lambata Community Representative, Waziri Lambata, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi Naziru, expressed the community’s support for the initiative.
He commended the Commissioner, the Ministry of Lands and Survey, and Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for advancing the project, describing it as a major intervention capable of transforming economic activities in Lambata.
He assured the government and prospective investors of the community’s cooperation, noting that the project would create opportunities, enhance commercial activities and contribute to improved livelihoods for residents of the area.
Meanwhile, the proposed Lambata Trailer Park is therefore positioned not merely as a transport facility, but as an integrated commercial and logistics development capable of catalyzing investment and economic growth along the Lambata–Lapai corridor.
