Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya CON has yet again assured health workers in the State that his administration is fully committed towards making the conditions of service for nurses and other caregivers conducive for optimal performance.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya gave the assurance while speaking at a one day Nursing Summit organize by the state Ministry of health, under the theme; Revitalizing Ethics and Etiquette in the Nursing Profession”
Represented by the Secretary to the Gombe State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the Governor describe the one-Day Nursing Summit as a gathering of hearts and minds committed to strengthening the foundation of healthcare in the state.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya observed that Nurses, embodies the human side of medicine, as their close contact with patients in vulnerable moments, offers not just treatment but comfort and reassurance.
“When a nurse smiles, a patient heals faster. When a nurse listens, a patient feels valued. This summit is about restoring those values and reaffirming the noble calling of nursing”.
The Gombe State Governor stress that patient safety is not negotiable, as it is the cornerstone of healthcare maintaining that ethics and etiquette are the heartbeat of trust, without which no amount of technology or infrastructure can guarantee quality care.
“As you are all aware my administration has rehabilitated 228 primary healthcare centres across the state, ensuring that communities everywhere have access to safe and functional facilities.We are also upgraded general hospitals in each of the three senatorial zones. These hospitals are being equipped to serve as centres of excellence, providing not only treatment but also training and research opportunities for our healthcare professionals”.
The Gombe State Governor reveals that beyond infrastructure, his administration has implemented the Federal Government–approved CONMESS and CONHESS salary scales which ensures that nurses and other health professionals are fairly rewarded for their invaluable service.
He added that his administration has also constituted the Hospitals Management Board to strengthen governance, improve accountability, and enhance efficiency in health institutions.
He said the vision of his administration goes beyond facilities and salaries pointing out that the state government under his leadership is poise towards building a systems that protect the people of the State.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya explain that the Gombe State Health Insurance Scheme (GoHealth) now has over 380,000 enrollees explaining that the scheme is a critical pillar of financial protection, which ensures that healthcare is not a privilege but a right.
Earlier speaking the Gombe State Commissioner of Health Dr Habu Dahiru describe the summit as timely and strategic towards advancing Health sector reforms Agenda of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s administration.
He remark that Nursing and Midwifery constitutes the largest segment of Health worker and remain central to the delivery of safe, effective and people -centred health service hence the essence of the summit to drum the importance of ethics and etiquette as an indespensable tool for effective service delivery.
The Director Nursing Service Idris Mohammed Atiku had while welcoming guests said the aim of the summit is to train Nurses and Midwives on imperatives of ethics and etiquette to the Nursing profession.
A total of 350 Nurses and Midwives drawn across the state participated in the training, as contained in a statement signed by Joshua DanMallam, Information Officer, SSG’s Office, Gombe.
