Farmers/Herders violence:  Bauchi Gov’t demarcates Darazo forest reserves, urges peaceful coexistence 

Bauchi State Government has embarked on demarcation of the forests in Darazo LGA of the State as part of definite measures to end the incessant farmers/ herders violent conflict in the area.

Recall that in recent pasts, many lives including security personnel were lost in some of the violent attacks over ownership of the forest between herders and farmers.

The State Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Mohammed Auwal Jatau, who is chairing a high powered Committee on land demarcation in the local government area led members to visit Aliya and Yautare of Sade and Darazo Districts, where the violent is rampant.

While at the forests amidst heavy security protection, the Deputy Governor laid the demarcation of the forests to each part as directed by Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.

Upon arrival to the areas, the Deputy Governor was received by the Executive Chairperson of Darazo Local Government Council, Hon Samaila Sade who commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his prompt response to ending the impasse .

Others present, to witness the excesses are the Two Members of Bauchi State House of assembly, representing Darazo and Sade Constituencies, the Emir of Darazo, all the District Heads in the area, representative of Police Commissioner, representative of Director SS, and that of NSCDC, representative of Farmers and herders as well as other relevant bodies.

Mohammed Auwal Jatau said that with the proper demarcation of the forest reserves in Darazo local government area, it is expected that the incessant farmers/herders clashes in the areas which has led to loss of many lives would be over.

He charged the two parties to choose the path of peace by respecting each other for sustainable growth and development

The Deputy Governor then performed the symbolic sampling of the demarcation exercise at Aliya forest reserve for 2500 hectres as well as the Yautare forest reserve for 2500 hectres as approved by Governor Bala Mohammed.

Representatives of the security agencies led by the State Police Command commended the State Government for the proactive approach taken to avert loss of more lives with the raining season fasst approaching when farmers will go back to the farms.

Speaking through the Police Command, they assured to ensure presence of their personnel around the areas and step up surveillance in order to stem any clashes.
