Wikki Tourists FC Board: You don’t have power to dissolve, reconstitute management board – Group challenges Sports Commissioner

A group, under the aegies of Organized Football Supporters of Bauchi State, is calling for clarification from the Bauchi State Government over the actions taken by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Adamu Babayo Gabarin by dissolving and reconstituting the Management Board of the State owned Nigeria Premier Football League Club, Wikki Tourists FC.

This is as controversy is now trailing the dissolution and reconstituion of the Management Board as announced by the Commissioner, Adamu Babayo Gabarin, on Tuesday.

In a terse statement signed by Chairman of the group, Muhammad Sani Inuwa, made available to Journalists on Wednesday, the group demanded, “We respectfully seek urgent clarification from the Bauchi State Government regarding the recent public release by the Honorable Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, in which he communicated his alleged approval of the dissolution of the Board of Wikki Tourists Football Club.”

According to the group, “Under established Government protocols and civil service rules, the Honorable Commissioner does not possess the constitutional or administrative authority to approve the hiring or dissolution of Boards of Government-owned institutions. Such powers reside solely with the Executive Governor of Bauchi State.”

It argued that, “The Commissioner’s action, as publicly communicated, therefore raises serious concerns about due process, overreach of authority, and adherence to laid-down rules of governance.”

According to the group, “Matters of this nature demand clarity, transparency, and strict compliance with government procedures to avoid misinformation and institutional embarrassment.”

“We call on the Bauchi State Government to urgently address this issue, clarify the true position of government regarding the status of the Wikki Tourists FC Board, and take appropriate disciplinary action to call the Honorable Commissioner to order for this apparent breach of rules and protocol,”The group added.

It stressed that,”Wikki Tourists FC is a major sporting institution and a symbol of pride for the people of Bauchi State. Decisions affecting its leadership and stability must be handled responsibly, lawfully, and through the proper channels.”
