300 level student of IBB varsity commits suicide

A 300 level student of Ibrahim Babangida Badamasi University, Lapai, Niger State, Kevin Danlami, has committed suicide by hanging himself.

The development was contained in a Press statement issued by Comrade Aliyu Abubakar, General Secretary of Students Union Government (SUG) Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai.

According to the SUG,  the incident occurred on  Sunday, 28th January 2026, when Kelvin Danlami hanged himself in his room.

He further stated that the SUG and the Dean of Students Affairs reported the incident/matter to the Police on the same day, and Kelvin’s parents were summoned to the station.

According to the statement, the Police, asked Kevin’s parents about their preferred action, they decided to have Kelvin’s body released for burial.

The statement also conveyed that the entire students body mourns Kelvin’s passing. His loss is deeply felt, impacting not only his family and friends but the entire university community.

The university community continues to grieve about Kelvin’s departure as he answers his Creator’s call.

This tragic event underscores the destructive impact of illegal gambling.

300 Level IBBUL Student Commits Suicide Over House Rent Issue in Lapai in Niger

Meanwhile, according to reports, the student, who is from Suleja LGA, was said to be  serving as a caretaker of the lodge where he was living.
 He was allegedly entrusted with collecting rent from tenants, but allegedly used the money to gamble.

It was further gathered that  when the lodge owner later demanded the rent, the student was unable to produce the money.

Sources who craved anonymity in a brief chat with our reporter say the pressure from the demand led the student to take his own life by hanging himself inside a room.

A handwritten note was reportedly found at the scene. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident further.
