Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, on Thursday, urged leaders of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), in the State to ensure that only loyal, committed and competent members are nominated as candidates for the forthcoming local government council elections scheduled for next month.

The Governor gave the charge while declaring open, the APM Stakeholders’ Meeting comprising ten members from each of the 20 LGAs, held at the Government House, Bauchi.

He said the party’s success at the polls would depend on presenting candidates who are dedicated to the party’s ideals and committed to delivering effective leadership at the grassroots.

Bala Mohammed further stressed that the success of the party depends largely on unity and discipline among its members.

He therefore urged party leaders and supporters to work together and support the decisions reached through the party’s internal democratic processes.

The Governor noted that the forthcoming local government elections present another opportunity to deepen grassroots democracy and consolidate the gains recorded by his administration in governance and service delivery across the state.

The Governor reaffirmed his confidence in the party’s leadership, expressing optimism that the APM would record a successful outing in the elections through peaceful campaigns, issue-based politics and the collective commitment of its members.

He however suggested that all serving elected Chairmen and Councillors who have done well and are constitutionally qualified should be allowed to be reelected while not qualified should be substituted with more qualified people.

The stakeholders’ meeting was attended by party executives, local government leaders, political office holders and other key stakeholders from across Bauchi State, who gathered to deliberate on strategies aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the August local government elections.

In his remarks, State Chairman of APM, Auwal Isah, commended the Governor for effective and impactful leadership of the State saying that the APM has become more active and acceptable across the country since he joined.

He urged the stakeholders to ensure that only people with unquestionable characters are nominated as candidates in order to make it easier for the party to win the election.

Also speaking, the Director-General of the APC Campaign, Hamza Koshe Akuyam, reiterated the need to avoid sentiments while choosing the candidates stressing that competence, integrity and acceptability are the main focus.

Recall that the State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), had issued a notice of election in line with the Electoral Law, scheduling the date as August 17th, 2026.
