Fire destroys Office of Bauchi NHRC

Some parts of the building housing Bauchi State Office of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), was on Wednesday, gutted and razed by fire.

Reports have it that the fire incident which occurred in the morning, 10.48am, destroyed parts of the structure though no life was lost neither was there any injuries

A staff of the Commission disclosed that the fire resulted from some housekeeping burning from a neibouring compound that is sharing fence with the Office of the Commission.

According to him, “It first got to the flower plant in the National Human Rights Commission’s compound and then to the roof of the office building, unnoticed by the Staff.”

The Staff added that, “Intervention to putting out the fire first came from some youths working on the ongoing road construction by the office, the youths came in and were trying to put out the fire using buckets and water.”

According to him, “The Bauchi State Fire Service which had earlier been contacted promptly came in and professionally put out the fire.”

He lamented that, “The fire caused damage to some parts of building roof, it also affected the public power supply to the office. It also caused damage to the building’s wiring.

According to him,”The fire, however, did not affect any record or files in the office. Officers were also promptly evacuated and without any injuries.
