Wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Gombe State, Dr. Zainab Jamil Gwamna, has made history by convening the first-ever Gombe Women’s Unity and Progress Summit, which attracted more than 6,000 women from across the state.
Held at the APC Square in Gombe under the theme, “Stronger Voices. United Women, Greater Impact,” the landmark summit brought together women stakeholders, entrepreneurs, professionals, community leaders, Wives of political candidates, Change makers, and allies for unity, Empowerment and sustainable progress from all 11 Local Government Areas and 13 Local Council Development Areas of Gombe State.
The unprecedented gathering provided a platform for women to discuss issues affecting their welfare, strengthen networks, promote mentorship and encourage greater participation in family development, governance and the socio-economic transformation of the state.
Speaking at the summit, the convener, Dr. Zainab Jamil Gwamna, said the initiative was driven by her desire to build a united and purposeful women’s movement in which women support one another, create opportunities for younger generations and use their collective strength to contribute to the development of Gombe State.
She explained that, “This summit is about bringing Gombe women together to discover our collective strength and understand that the success of one woman should open doors for another. We must mentor our young girls, support women in business and professions, strengthen our families and contribute meaningfully to our communities.”
According to her, “I am grateful to the women of Gombe for coming together in such numbers, and I commend Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his programmes for women and youths. I also appreciate my husband, Dr. Jamil Gwamna, for giving me the space to contribute to the development of our women and our state.”
Zainab Gwamna urged the participants to take the knowledge and inspiration gained from the summit back to their communities, particularly by mentoring young girls, promoting confidence and self-esteem, encouraging skills acquisition and supporting women to become economically productive and self-reliant.
In her remarks, the Wife of the Gombe State Governor, Dr. Asma’u Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, commended the initiative and the impressive turnout of women from across the state, reaffirming the government’s commitment to programmes aimed at improving the welfare, empowerment and economic wellbeing of women and youths.
The Governor’s Wife added, “Women are indispensable partners in the development of our families, communities and the state. I commend Dr. Zainab Gwamna for bringing women together through this important summit and for creating a platform where they can learn, connect and support one another.”
“The administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya remains committed to initiatives that empower women and youths, and we will continue to support programmes that improve their wellbeing and strengthen their capacity to contribute to society,” She added.
Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya described women as critical partners in family and community development and encouraged them to sustain the spirit of unity, cooperation and mutual support demonstrated at the summit.
Other stakeholders who attended the historic gathering described the summit as a significant milestone in women’s mobilisation and empowerment in Gombe State, commending Dr. Zainab Gwamna for creating a platform that brought women from diverse backgrounds together.
They said the massive turnout demonstrated the strength and influence of women when united around a common purpose, while emphasising the importance of collaboration, mentorship, economic empowerment and greater participation in community development and governance.
Participants expressed optimism that the summit would have a lasting impact beyond the event itself by strengthening women’s networks, promoting self-reliance and inspiring more women and young girls to take active roles in shaping the future of their families and communities.
The summit ended with renewed calls for women across Gombe State to remain united, support one another and translate the knowledge and relationships gained from the gathering into practical action in their respective communities.
Stakeholders at the summit said that the event exemplified the kind of support and platform that the administration of Gov Yahaya has provided for women to contribute to the development of the state, stressing that the summit would also brighten the chances of all APC candidates in the state to clinch victory come 2027 general elections, as contained in a statement signed by Ibrahim Sani Shawai, Spokesperson to Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna.
