A Bauchi based NGO, Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative (FAWOYDI), has started implementing a five-year capacity strenthen engagement for women and girls on financial management ,Village Savings and Loans (VLS) in three Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Bauchi State.

FAWOYDI’s Project Officer, Ms Mother Yanga, said during the implementation on Thursday, that the project was funded by the Government of Canada.

The project is tagged “Renewed Women’s Voices and Leadership Project”.

Yanga said that it was funded through Global Affairs Canada and implemented by ActionAid- Nigeria in partnership with FAWOYDI.

According to her, the project is designed to empower women and adolescent girls on financial trainings to strengthen their capacity.

‘’They will be beneficiaries of Village Savings and Loan Associations, entrepreneurship development and management of existing and start-up businesses, ‘’ she said.

She explained that the implementation had commenced with stakeholders’ sensitisation meetings across the target communities.

“We have engaged community and religious leaders, women leaders, youth leaders and male advocates to ensure the success of the project,” she said.

The project officer noted that sensitisation activities had already been conducted in eight communities across the three selected LGAs of Bauchi, Ganjuwa and Alkaleri.

“We have visited Rishi,Township, Gar, Kafin Madaki, Soro,Miya, Baban buka and Gwallagan Mayaka communities in the three participating LGAs,” she said.

She said inclusivity remained the key strategy of the project, adding that adolescent girls had been deliberately included to ensure sustainability and long-term impact.

“We are happy with the positive reception the project has received in all the communities.

“We intend to train more women on Village Savings and Loan Associations, while also strengthening existing structures.

“This will encourage new participants to learn skills that will empower them economically and amplify their voices in decision-making processes,” she said.

According to her, the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Project is committed to ensuring that no woman is left behind.

Yanga said the project would pay special attention to structurally excluded groups, including women living with disabilities, elderly women, adolescent girls, widows, divorced women and commercial sex workers.

The officer added that the initiative aimed to enhance women’s participation in leadership, improve their economic opportunities and strengthen their capacity to contribute meaningfully to community development.
