Young workers who are members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) across the 774 LGAs across the country have commenced a 3-day training programme for enhanced administrative skills, leadership capacity and effectiveness in service delivery.
The 3-day training is ongoing in Bauchi and was declared open by the State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, on Thursday.
While declaring the workshop openec, the Governor said his administration had made significant efforts to promote good governance and improve service delivery across the state.
The Governor, who was represented by the Chairman of the Bauchi State Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Wabi, said the state had recorded significant progress in various sectors of the economy.
He noted that local government administration now had a trained and capable workforce that could effectively represent the third tier of government.
Bala Mohammed charged the participants to acquire new ideas and introduce innovations that would contribute to improving local government administration across Nigeria.
Speaking on behalf of the NULGE President-General, Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara, the Deputy President-General of the Union, Comrade Ruphus Babalola Adeyemi, described the training as a strategic investment in the future of the union and local government administration in the country.
He said the theme of the training, **“Empowering Young Workers, Building Leadership and Power Resilience for the Future,”** underscored the importance of preparing young workers for leadership responsibilities.
According to him, any union that seeks to remain relevant must continuously prepare its young workers to address emerging challenges.
Comrade Kankara assured the participants that NULGE would continue to provide opportunities for young workers to contribute to the development of the union and local government administration.
He said the Union had embraced information and communication technology in its operations, urging young workers to acquire relevant digital skills and keep pace with changing trends.
He appealed to the participants to remain attentive and actively participate in all the training sessions.
Earlier, the NULGE President, Bauchi State Chapter, Comrade Muhammad Yunusa Dass, said the training was designed to equip young workers with the administrative skills needed to prepare them for future leadership responsibilities.
Comrade Yunusa said participants were drawn from the 774 Local Government Areas across the country.
He commended the Bauchi State Government for clearing the six-year backlog of local government promotion arrears, as well as for creating new emirates, chiefdoms and districts, which he said would bring governance closer to the people.
The NULGE State President also appreciated the Bauchi State Government for its support towards the successful hosting of the training programme in the state.
In his remarks, the National Young Workers Representative, Comrade Safiyanu Abdullahi Dewu, commended NULGE for providing young workers with the opportunity to contribute to the development of the union and their workplaces.
He assured the union that the knowledge and skills acquired during the training would be shared with other colleagues to strengthen union activities and improve local government administration in their respective areas.
