Management of Wikki Tourists Football Club of Bauchi, has denied claims that Chairman of Katsina United FC was attacked and injured in Bauchi during the match between the two Clubs.
The denial was contained in a statement issued by the Management of Wikki Tourists FC, on Monday and given to Sports Writers in Bauchi.
The management write that it has taken note of a viral video circulating on social media showing the Chairman of Katsina United Football Club receiving medical attention at a hospital.
The Wikki FC management declared that, “We wish to state clearly that the circumstances surrounding the incident are not known to Wikki Tourists FC.”
“While Wikki Tourists FC strongly condemns any form of violence, the Management would never sit back and watch any guest, official, or individual being maltreated under any circumstance,” It stressed.
According to the Management, “We wish to clarify that the match organisers were not aware of the presence of the Katsina United Chairman at the venue, as his name was neither recorded nor announced during the pre-match meeting as a guest of the match.”
It further stated that, “Furthermore, it has been confirmed by the Match Commissioner, Blessing David, that the Katsina United Chairman was seated on the Katsina United reserve bench at the time of the incident, an area designated strictly for match officials and team personnel.”
It was stressed that,”He was not expected nor authorised to sit on the reserve bench.”
When contacted in an effort to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Match Commissioner, Confirmed that the Chairman did not officially announce his presence at the venue.
The Management stressed that, “Wikki Tourists Football Club has always accorded priority attention to the safety and welfare of its guests and officials.”
According to it, “Had the Katsina United Chairman’s presence been formally communicated and proper protocol observed, his situation would not have been different from that of any other guest.”
Wikki Tourists FC reiterated that it remains committed to professionalism, sportsmanship, and the safety of all participants before, during, and after matches.
