Niger Assembly assures NYSC of support for permanent orientation camp project

The Niger State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Youths Development has assured the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) of its readiness to collaborate towards the successful construction of a new permanent NYSC Orientation Camp in Niger State.

This assurance was given by the Vice Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Youths Development, Hon. Pharm. Umar Nasiru, Member representing Paikoro Constituency, during an on-the-spot oversight visit to the Niger State NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Paiko.

He led other Members of the Committee on the visit, where they were warmly received by the NYSC Niger State Coordinator, Mrs. Martina Shu’aibu Ibrahim, and her management team at the camp.

He explained that although the NYSC is a Federal Government parastatal, the Niger State House of Assembly has the responsibility to show concern and provide oversight because the state hosts and supports the activities of the Scheme. According to him, the success of NYSC operations in the state directly benefits Niger State and its people.

The Vice Chairman further disclosed that about ₦5 billion has been budgeted over the past two years for the construction of the permanent orientation camp. He noted that the committee decided to carry out the visit to ascertain why the funds had not been released.

He expressed surprise at the level of challenges facing the camp and commended the NYSC management for coping under difficult conditions.

He assured the coordinator that the 10th Niger Assembly would ensure the release of funds to enable the commencement of the permanent orientation camp project,

Hon. Pharm. Umar Nasiru added that the camp urgently requires government intervention and attention.

He said that the Niger State Government, under the leadership of the Farmer Governor, Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, already has plans for the construction of a new permanent orientation camp.

He confirmed that the project has been approved by the Niger State House of Assembly and assured that the project would commence soon, with the official flag-off expected at any moment.

Earlier in her remarks, the NYSC Niger State Coordinator, Mrs. Martina Shu’aibu Ibrahim, thanked the chairman and members of the committee for finding time to conduct the on-the-spot visit, she described the visit as timely and encouraging.

Mrs. Martina used the opportunity to appeal to the Committee to urgently assist in addressing several challenges confronting the camp, particularly the deteriorating facilities.


She highlighted key areas of concern, including hostel accommodation, office buildings, the auditorium, and other critical infrastructure in need of urgent intervention.
