Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has directed for the immediate integration of Two Volunteer Health workers at Wahu Primary Healthcare Centre, Darazo LGA, into the State Civil Service.
The Governor gave the directive when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Wahu PHC, recently rehabilitated, upgraded and equipped by his administration.
The visit was to assess the condition of the facility, the quality of healthcare services being provided, and the effectiveness of the Drugs Revolving Fund in ensuring access to essential medicines.
Bala Mohammed expressed satisfaction with the state of the infrastructure, availability of medical equipment, and the general performance of the healthcare facility.
Impressed by the active performance of the Volunteers, the Governor directed that the two of them be immediately absorbed into the state civil service, while an additional volunteer is to be employed under the local government service.
He commended the commitment of health workers and urged them to sustain their efforts, while also calling on relevant authorities to ensure continuous improvement in service delivery and proper maintenance of the facility.
The decision underscored his administration’s broader health sector reforms in Bauchi State—reforms aimed not only at upgrading infrastructure but also at strengthening human capital. According to the governor, buildings and equipment alone cannot guarantee quality healthcare; it is motivated, properly engaged personnel that form the backbone of effective service delivery.
He reaffirmed that functional primary healthcare centers remain the first line of defense in safeguarding public health, particularly in rural communities where access to secondary and tertiary facilities may be limited. By formalizing the status of volunteer health workers, the administration seeks to boost morale, enhance professionalism, and ensure consistent service standards across the state.
Governor Bala Mohammed also urged community leaders and stakeholders to sustain their collaboration with government initiatives. He emphasized that public health advancement thrives on shared responsibility, community trust, and collective ownership of development programmes.
Ultimately, the intervention at Wahu Primary Health Care Center represents more than an employment directive—it reflects a governance philosophy that prioritizes social welfare, rewards dedication, and strengthens the institutions that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens.
