The Niger State Police Command on 23rd June, 2026 received the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Department of Training and Development and Coordinating DIG, North Central Geo-Political Zone, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, PhD, FCNA, on a two-day operational visit to the Police Command Headquarters, Dutsen-Kura, Minna.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to strengthen operational capacity through stakeholders engagement, enhance professionalism and deepen police-community relations, restore public confidence, and reinforce the commitment of personnel towards combating crime and criminality across the country.
During the Commissioner of Police’s welcome address, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips, described the visit as a significant honour and a clear demonstration of the Force leadership’s commitment to supporting officers and men serving on the frontline.
He noted that the visit would further motivate personnel and strengthen their resolve to discharge their constitutional responsibilities with dedication and professionalism.
The CP emphasized on the strategic importance of Niger State, highlighting its vast landmass, diverse population, difficult terrain, and the security challenges.
He also provided an overview of some security incidents recorded within the State, while outlining the Command’s response strategies.
He further highlighted major operational achievements recorded by the Command, including the arrest and prosecution of suspected kidnappers, their collaborators, armed robbery syndicates, child traffickers, and illegal arms fabricators.
The Command also recorded significant recoveries of firearms, ammunition, rustled livestock, and other stolen property, alongside the rescue of several kidnapped and trafficked victims.
He further stated that these achievements reflect the resilience, dedication, and professionalism of officers and men of the Command.
He also disclosed that continuous capacity-building programmes were being conducted for personnel, including officers of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) as well as Police constables, covering areas such as weapons handling, community policing, social media policy, police public relations and respect for human rights, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
While acknowledging the support of the Niger State Government, sister security agencies, and non-conventional security outfits, he also highlighted some operational and logistical challenges confronting the Command and appealed for additional support to further strengthen the State’s security architecture.
He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property through professionalism, integrity, courage, and service.
In his remarks, DIG Isyaku Mohammed expressed appreciation for the warm reception, describing the visit as a homecoming given that his policing career commenced in Niger State.
He stated that the visit was aimed at assessing the security situation within the State, evaluating operational strategies and capabilities, engaging stakeholders, communicating the policy directives of the Inspector-General of Police and obtaining firsthand feedback on security, operational, and welfare concerns.
The DIG commended officers and men of the Command for their resilience, sacrifices and dedication to duty, while calling on residents and stakeholders to continue supporting security agencies through cooperation and information sharing to enhance public trust and confidence.
He also conveyed the welfare message of the Inspector-General of Police and reiterated key policy directives of the Force, including intensified action against unregistered vehicles and vehicles with concealed or defaced number plates, establishment of inter-state “handshake” patrols, enhanced stop-and-search operations, intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, as well as increased visibility policing across areas of responsibility.
The DIG further emphasized the need for effective supervision of personnel, professionalism in the use of force and firearms, strict adherence to dress code, discipline, and zero-tolerance against indiscipline and corruption.
As part of the engagement, the DIG paid a courtesy visit to the Niger State Government, where he had a robust discussion with the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba on security situations in the State and modern operational strategies to combat violent crimes and criminality.
Afterwards, DIG Isyaku held an interactive session with critical stakeholders, including heads of sister security agencies, traditional institutions, religious and community leaders, civil society organizations, trade unions and members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).
The engagement provided a platform for stakeholders to share valuable insights and recommendations on prevailing security challenges and strategies for improving safety and public security across the State.
Discussions focused on inter-state joint border patrols, community policing initiatives, intelligence sharing, youth mentoring and engagement programmes, and effective implementation of Safe Schools Initiative through the School Protection framework.
Stakeholders commended the collaborative efforts of security agencies and offered practical recommendations aimed at strengthening the existing security structure.
The DIG appreciated their contributions and assured them that all observations and recommendations would be communicated to the Inspector-General of Police for appropriate consideration and action.
Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, officers and men of the Command, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, DCP Aminu M. Garba, expressed profound gratitude to the DIG for the visit.
He described the visit as a reflection of the Inspector-General’s commitment to frontline policing and his desire to gain firsthand knowledge of the operational realities facing Commands across the country.
The DCP reiterated the Command’s unwavering support for the vision and leadership of the Inspector-General of Police in strengthening security, improving public safety, and reinforcing public trust in policing.
He noted that the DIG’s visit had greatly boosted the morale of personnel and served as a source of encouragement and motivation.
