The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been warned against allowing the Bauchi State gubernatorial ticket of the party to remain the way it if it really wants to win the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The warning was given by a political pressure group, Katagum Youth Progressive Group (KYPG) in a Press statement it issued to Journalists on Tuesday through Baba Isah Azare.
The group therefore called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Chairman of the All the APC, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda to revisit the conduct of the primaries and carefully review the party’s gubernatorial candidature process ahead of the 2027 elections.
The group expressed concern over the prospect of presenting a candidate whose previous record in public office, according to it, was characterized by inadequate infrastructure development, delayed project execution, disregard for traditional institutions, lack of transparency, and insufficient inclusion of critical stakeholders.
The group stated that Bauchi APC must field a candidate capable of uniting party members, inspiring public confidence, and offering a credible alternative to the people of the state.
“The APC cannot afford to repeat past mistakes. Bauchi voters deserve a candidate with a proven record of performance, accountability, respect for traditional institutions, and the ability to attract widespread public support,” the statement said.
The group warned that imposing an unpopular candidate could weaken the party’s electoral prospects and jeopardize its chances of winning the governorship election.
The Katagum Youth Progressive Group therefore appealed to President Tinubu and the APC leadership to prioritize competence, acceptability, and grassroots support in determining the party’s standard bearer for Bauchi State.
